Has Mario Balotelli Cost Manchester City the Title

It was always going to happen. My first piece for The Huffington Post UK and I’m already writing about Mario Balotelli. Castigated by various sections of the media, many would have you believe that the Italian, regarded initially as a loveable character but now as a drain on our sanity, is the sole reason as to why Manchester City might not win the Premier League this season.

With the explosive Manchester derby to come on Monday, the destination of the title is still up in the air, but the Reds are favourites and if United do prove superior and bask in the glory of their twentieth title, the obvious scapegoat in the eyes of the media is Balotelli. That, however, is far too lazy and simplistic. He is certainly one factor, but a relatively minor one in the grand scale of events.

I firmly believe perspective is needed with Balotelli. Yes, he’s a hugely volatile and temperamental individual, someone who is just as likely to score the winning goal as he is to celebrate it by attacking the opposition manager, but for someone who is 21 years of age, living in a foreign country having left his friends and family behind, he deserves far more respect than he currently receives.

This season, he has scored 17 goals from 31 games in all competitions and included in that statistic are some vitally important strikes. The first goal in the 6-1 humiliation of United springs to mind due to the celebration, but the actually quality of the finish was superb. Equally, he scored the first goal away at Stamford Bridge, a tremendously composed strike within the opening two minutes, whilst it was him who made the breakthrough at the Etihad Stadium against a stubborn Everton team. Away at Napoli in the Champions League, his goal gave City hope of progressing and it was his coolness from the penalty spot which secured an injury-time winner against Spurs.

When pitted against his rivals, his record speaks for itself. Looking at the candidates for PFA Young Player of the Year, the names of Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck immediately stand out. Both are recognised as having had impressive seasons, both have even made their England debuts this campaign, yet from 37 appearances each, they have scored just 12 and 11 goals respectively. Compared to Balotelli, that’s pitiful, but because they are not likely to make the back page of papers due to off-field antics, they receive almost ubiquitous praise.

That is not to say Balotelli ought to be considered for young player of the year, but merely that his achievements should be respected for what they are. There is the overbearing sense that he is judged not just on his performances for City Windows XP Key, but by his all-round behaviour, and that is perhaps a touch unfair.

Without doubt, his displays over the past couple of months have been nowhere near good enough, though he is not alone in that regard. He is, at times, a liability and merits the vitriolic criticism that has been sent in his direction, but to suggest he is the sole reason City’s title ambitions might not be achieved is as pathetic as it is naive.

It seems to me that there are a whole number of other factors as to why City might finish second, whether that is as a consequence of injuries to key players, the drop in form of certain individuals or merely down to Manchester United’s relentless pursuit of the title.

David Silva’s early season brilliance has been well documented, but his lull from around Christmas time seriously thwarted City’s creative output and is, for me, the single most influential reason why it’s unlikely the Blues will lift the title. At the start of the campaign, his effortless majesty was a joy to watch, but as he suffered from fatigue and injury, so did City in front of goal, notably due to the lack of quality opportunities presented to the strikers. At his best, Silva is the one player who makes City tick but he has struggled to maintain his high standards throughout and has only seemingly recovered in the past couple of outings.

The absence of Yaya Touré, such an imposing presence in midfield, to the African Cup of Nations has been cited as a factor, though the Blues won four of the five Premier League fixtures that the Ivorian missed, so his departure may not have been as disruptive as initially felt. It did, however Windows 7 Key, affect the rhythm and style of football played, but without impacting too greatly upon results.

Far more damaging, in my eyes, has been the woeful away form since early November. Following the defeat of QPR at Loftus Road, City recorded just a pair of victories in the subsequent ten matches on the road, losing half and scoring a mere five goals in the process. For a side with genuine title aspirations, that was well below-par and contributed heavily to United taking the lead in the race for the league. The Blues’ form at the Etihad Stadium has been absolutely terrific Office 2010 Key, dropping just two points all season, but on their travels it has been a different matter entirely.

Moreover, the fact that last season’s player of the year and top goalscorer was spending his days playing golf in Argentina instead of helping City should not be overlooked. Carlos Tévez could rival Balotelli for off-pitch headlines, but he’s a proven performer and someone whose goals fired us to the Champions League last season. So for him to miss the vast majority of the campaign after that night in Munich was a huge blow. City didn’t exactly struggle without the Argentine, leading the Premier League and producing some exquisite football in the meantime, but such is the impact Tévez has made since returning, one can’t help but wonder what might have been the case had he been present throughout.

But the one factor often ignored yet which is imperative is a certain team named Manchester United. It pains me to say it as a City fan, but they are really rather good. They don’t necessarily have the quality in their squad that the Blues possess, but their ruthlessness and desire to win at all costs means they are victorious in matches when nowhere near their best. And that, as we regularly hear, is a sign of champions.

Before their loss to Wigan, a result which gave City renewed hope, United had won eleven and drawn one of their previous twelve Premier League matches. At any stage of the season, that is to be admired, but with the pressure on towards the end of the campaign, it is a phenomenal record. Their experience and knowhow is frequently brought up in the press, and along with those elements, it is their resolve and utter tenacity that enables them to prevail so often.

It is easy to look at City and wonder where it has gone wrong (if indeed finishing second with a possible record points tally is ‘wrong’), but to lay the blame purely on the unpredictable shoulders of Mario Balotelli is just not right. You never know, he might pop up in the Derby and score the winner. We can but dream.

Ann Coulter Says Marco Rubio as VP Pick Would Be a

ABC

While pundits, politicians and prognosticators have tapped Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as one of the most likely GOP vice presidential picks, conservative commentator Ann Coulter warned today that such a choice would be a “mistake.”

“I think that would be a mistake because the same people who loved Rubio loved [former presidential candidate and Texas Gov.]Rick Perry,” Coulter told me Sunday during the “This Week” roundtable discussion. “I want someone who’s been a bit more tested.”

As the rising star of the Tea Party and a Hispanic from the delegate-rich state of Florida, Rubio would fix Romney’s two biggest problems: enthusiasm among the Republican base and lackluster support from Hispanics, argued conservative commentator George Will.

But Coulter, who is a firm Mitt Romney supporter, said the GOP frontrunner needs a running mate who is tried and tested, which, as a first-term Senator, Rubio is not.

Coulter suggested Romney pick someone like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie or Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

“He’s been tested, he’s steady, he’s not frightening,” Coulter said of Kyl. “He could certainly step into the job.”

Van Jones, a former environmental advisor in the Obama White House, threw a brand new name into the realm of vice presidential speculation: former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who served under George W. Bush.

“She ticks off a lot of boxes as far as women replica watches, persons of color, but she’s actually tested replica watches, she’s a national figure and she has foreign policy experience” Jones said. “You want to do something bold replica watches, put Condoleezza Rice on the ticket and watch the Obama campaign go crazy.”

A “bold choice,” argued New York Times columnist Matt Bai, is not what Romney should be looking for when going up against an incumbent president at “a time of anxiety” in the country.  Instead he needs someone “reliable,” Bai said.

But despite all the pondering and prediction-making, Will said at the end of the day the vice presidential pick won’t actually make much of a difference when voters go to the polls on Nov. 6.

“I’ve never met an American who said I voted for presidential candidate A because of running mate B,” Will said.

A Camden Crawler’s Guide to Festival Management L

As I write this, it’s exactly two weeks until the 2012 Camden Crawl kicks of in what I hope to be all its glory. We have been working extremely hard to finalise every artist contract and every last second of the schedule, and there’s still an awful lot to do – the big red 4 May on my calendar has the look of Sauron’s great eye in The Lord of the Rings, watching me malevolently.

What that proximity does bring back Tattoo Kits Free Shipping, though, are a lot of memories. Last year was, depending how you count, either the 10th Camden Crawl or 16 years since we launched the first event. I helped establish the Crawl in 1995, at the very height of that thing we called Britpop, and it was a relatively modest affair back then: a few venues, a friendly audience, and The Wedding Present.

Everyone’s moved on since then – for instance, Lauren Laverne, the lead singer of another of our headlining bands that first year, Kenickie, currently has a career caring for Charlie Brooker and Jimmy Carr. The Crawl, too, has changed a great deal, though not, I like to think, beyond recognition: we’re still a festival focused first and foremost on emerging talent Tattoo Kit, and celebrating the new and the exciting. We’re bigger, and hopefully better, but this year especially I think we’re always true to our founding principles.

Many of the acts who have featured on our bills have gone on to big things: when Mogwai played the 1996 Crawl, they weren’t the post-rock darlings they later became; in 2007, Adele wasn’t even dreaming of the success of 21; likewise, 2008’s Florence and the Machine and Mumford and Sons are now mainstream acts in their own right. I spotted one of last year’s artists, Beth Jeans Houghton, on Later with Jools Holland the other night; this time last year she was playing an early slot at a small venue in Camden.

Not that I’d say the Crawl is responsible for those artists’ success – instead, I think they show that our curators have an unerring eye for what’s going on across the music scene, and it’s our job to reflect that breadth and depth of emerging talent. We aren’t snobs – Amy Winehouse was already huge when she played in 2007, and Graham Coxon in both 2005 and 2011 was a household name – but music fans know they can come to us for a snapshot of what’s next, as well as the latest and biggest alternative acts.

However you count it Setting Tattoo Machine, whether this is our 11th festival or our 17th year, that’s why we’re proud of these memories – and why I know we’ll be proud come 4 May. Proud, but exhausted …

Senate Passes Postal Reform

The Senate voted today to approve the Postal Reform Act Tattoos Ink, sending a bill to the House of Representatives that the majority of Republicans there oppose. The vote, which required 60 votes to pass, cleared the Senate by 62-37. One independent and 12 Republican senators joined the Democratic majority in support of the legislation, while two Democrats opposed it.

“This is an important victory for the U.S. Postal Service, the American economy, and customers who rely on dependable and universal postal service,” Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, wrote in a statement following the vote. “Today’s vote is also a win for bipartisanship. Americans are rightly frustrated about what many feel is a dysfunctional Congress. With enormous problems facing our country and Congress having little to show by way of accomplishments, the process we’ve just completed on this bill demonstrates Senators can work together.”

The Postmaster General last year agreed to delay until May 15 obligatory closings of an anticipated 3 Tattoo Of Tattoo Machine,600 post offices nationwide, in order to give Congress the opportunity to help with legislation. The bill splits the number of mail processing centers the Postal Services currently wants to close — from 252 to 125.

With that deadline less than a month away Starbrite Tattoo Ink, the changes Congress make will change the face of the U.S. Postal Service and will directly affect how you get your mail and how much you pay to send it.

“The situation is not hopeless, the situation is dire,” Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., said after the vote. “My hope is that our friends over in the U.S. House, given our bipartisan steps we took this week, will feel a sense of urgency.”

Rep. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, is moving his own version of Postal Reform through the House of Representatives. He reacted to the news of its passage by calling the Senate’s legislation “a $33 billion dollar taxpayer funded bailout.”

“Instead of finding savings to help the Postal Service survive, the Senate postal bill has devolved into a special interest spending binge that would actually make things worse,” Issa, a California Republican, said in a statement. “While the Postal Service is actually trying to shutter some facilities it does not need, the Senate bill forces the Postal Service to keep over one hundred excess postal facilities open at a cost of $900 million per year. Worst of all, the Senate bill does not stop the financial collapse of USPS, but only delays it for two years, at best, when reforms will only be more painful. The Senate’s approach is wholly unacceptable.”

Connecticut Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, who helped champion the bill through the upper chamber, said that once the House passes its own bill to address postal reform, “we’ll find out where there’s compromise.”

“If House has a different way, we’ll sit down and reason together,” he said.

Collins also said she urged Issa to quickly pass his version of postal reform so that the House and Senate can get together and work out a final bill.

H.R. 2309, the Issa-Ross Postal Reform Act, would defer decisions about realigning the postal service to keep up with America’s changing use of mail.  It also mandates that USPS cut costs while directing it to consolidate excess facilities through a GAO-recommended process similar to the military base closure commission.

This Mother’s Day, Just Say NO

Say you’re a woman with both a child and a mother in your life, a MWM. Perhaps there’s even a grandmother still in the picture. MWMWM. If so, is it gauche to ask whose day is Mother’s Day, anyway?

As a woman with two young daughters of my own and a mom a couple of hours away, I face this coming Mother’s Day with what I hope is a more enlightened approach than my usual. My usual is feeling unsure of what to expect my own family to do for me, while also worrying I’m not doing enough for my own mom. Oh the mother-guilt of it all!

But this year I’m determined to be more intentional with my approach to this day that is both time-honored and probably made up by the Hallmark Corporation. I actually want to take the opportunity and forethought to ask this week: How can I best honor a woman who’s a mother and all her life brings to the world?

I think of a recent illustration on Facebook from a friend of a smiling, pretty, ’50s housewife at the stove. The cut-and-paste text reads, “Why, I’d be delighted to put my needs last again.”

I both laugh, and also think: Yes, bless her, she probably is. When I consider what mothers would do for their families Buy Herve Leger gown, (what wouldn’t we do?) I know that if nothing else, it’s a divine gift to be able to live with the feeling of so much devotion. Give up dairy to breastfeed, deliver papers in the dark to pay for college, drive hours in a snowstorm for sports and give up just about every limb we have à la Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree,” before we’d deny our family what they need.

Next up though, after the awe and gratitude that we can care in such an all-encompassing way, comes remembering to take care ourselves first. Please deploy own oxygen mask before assisting with that of another. This way it’s so much easier to breathe for everyone else.

Taking care of ourselves as moms has a long-standing tradition of being ignored. For one thing, it usually means saying no many more times than we currently do to all the demands others put on us. Think of The Giving Tree denying that poor little boy while she still has a few leaves left.

No, drawing boundaries around our own needs doesn’t come easily. But to be able to do this more is what I wish for my own busy mom Replica Marc Jacobs Dresses, as well as most of my friends who are moms, on this Mother’s Day. Really, I wish it for every day of the year. In wishing this for the mothers of the world, I hope to take a moment to honor all the limbs they’d willingly sever just to help another.

I’m thinking of all the offers for more work — to make more money for your family, the requests from your kids’ schools, those from their extra-curriculars, those from your spouse, parent, neighbor and friend. Horrifying if you say it out loud, I know.

“No I can’t do it… Sorry, no I can’t help you right now.”

But sometimes, to have the time to tune your own motor, you have to say no to all kinds of deserving, loving people and causes. This includes even that of the almighty dollar, or worse: bake-sale people.

And then what? Perhaps then you can do just one more thing for yourself than you’ve done in a while: do your nails, do yoga, do nothing. But do it for you. I promise that saying no this Mother’s Day and beyond will make you a better person. It will make you a better mom, a better daughter and it will make you a better set of lungs with which to breathe for the world.

For SaleZagato Caddy

Say “Italian-styled Cadillac” and any car person will shoot back “Allante.” It does appear, though, that Zagato executed coachwork on top of a fourth-generation Eldorado before Cadillac ever thought of shipping its wares to and from Pininfarina. This Eldo looks a lot like a Ferrari, and there’s a reason for that, according to the seller. The bodywork on this car was reportedly designed by Luigi Chinetti, Ferrari racer and the first Ferrari agent in the United States. Chinetti went on to found the North American Racing Team Tattoo Supplies, also an official Ferrari venture, and that might explain why this car has NART prominently displayed on its nose.

The NART badging is the only thing this custom Caddy shares with the Ferraris under Mr. Chinetti’s umbrella, though. The success of his Prancing Horse franchise is likely why this prototype, which was displayed at the Turin and New York auto shows in 1971, never went anywhere. Currently, the car is in Brussels Belgium Tattoo Supplies, and potential buyers are invited to make offers. If the provenance holds up, we doubt it’ll be a small selling price. At least you’ll get 1970’s Italian style with the inexpensive upkeep of 1970’s American running gear.

Watson’s masterful talents set for wider exposure

AUGUSTA, Georgia (Reuters) – Part Seve Ballesteros and part John Daly, newly crowned Masters champion Bubba Watson is a gifted shot-maker and genuine crowd pleaser who plays with extraordinary passion.

Like the late Spanish matador Ballesteros, Watson likes nothing more than to take on shots that most other players could never envisage. Sometimes they do not come off; often they do in breath-taking fashion.

And like the big-hitting Daly, the prodigious driving Watson is a firm fan favorite who wears his heart on his sleeve with his exciting brand of golf. He has the common touch and is not afraid to engage with the galleries.

Slim but loose-limbed, Watson has long been regarded by his peers as an extraordinary natural talent.

Following his emotional playoff victory over Louis Oosthuizen at the Masters on Sunday, he is now likely to make a much wider impact on the game because of his attacking approach and astonishing creativity.

“I just play golf. I attack. I always attack,” Watson told reporters after edging out South African Oosthuizen at the second extra hole where he conjured a miraculous hook shot from pine straw with a gap wedge from 155 yards.

“I don’t like to go to the centre of the greens. I want to hit the incredible shot. Who doesn’t? That’s why we play the game of golf, to pull off the amazing shot.”

Watson’s shot with from the pine trees on Sunday certainly amazed as it curved 40 yards from left to right before the ball settled on the green 10 feet from the pin. That set up a two-putt par for the American, and was good enough to beat Oosthuizen’s bogey for the title.

While most of the top players rely heavily on coaches, Watson is self-taught and learned to play the game as a youngster by hitting wiffle balls around his house Fake Swiss Movement Watches, swiftly developing the ability to cut and hook the ball at will.

FEELING COMFORTABLE

“I definitely can’t hit it dead straight. I like to move it every shot just because I feel more comfortable doing that Fake Montblanc Watches for sale,” Watson told Reuters.

“Hitting big hooks and big cuts with irons, that’s something I can do naturally. And I hit it in the trees a lot, so I know how to get out of trees pretty good,” he added with a smile.

Watson, who is best known for his power hitting with a distinctive pink-shafted driver and regularly blasts the ball over 310 yards Replica Hamilton Watches for Cheap, has stunned fellow players with remarkable shots.

Former world number Tiger Woods vividly remembers watching him cut a one-iron over trees and on to the green from around 320 yards at the Dunlop Phoenix tournament in Japan.

“We see him two groups ahead of us and we have a big logjam and he pulled out iron,” 14-times major winner Woods, himself a prodigious hitter Where find Replica Oris Watches, recalled. “We heard he’s long, but come on.

“All of a sudden you hear this huge roar. He pumped it on the green. I don’t have that shot. If I hit a good three-wood, I’ll probably fly it in the front bunker or bounce it in the front bunker. Yeah Emporio Armani Replica Watches, he’s long.”

Having now won his first major title, Watson will certainly be monitored much more closely by fans who were previously unaware of his enormous talents.

Asked how much higher his golfing horizons now stretched, Watson replied with a grin: “Major champion, think I’m done, right? I mean Replica Tudor Watches for sale, can’t do any better than this.

“That’s the best part about history. We don’t know what’s going to happen. We don’t know the future. Hopefully I keep crying. Hopefully I keep having the passion to play golf and keep doing what I’m doing.”
